| Drivers nearing downtown Albany might see more action than they are used to in upcoming days as film crews shoot car chase scenes for an action-thriller starring Angelina Jolie.
Columbia Pictures has released the details of its upcoming shooting schedule for the action film “Salt,” which will close down some Albany roadways for periods of time from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. from Thursday through May 4. In the film, Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who goes on the run to clear her name after she is accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy. Columbia officials said the company will not be hosting a local casting call looking for extras for “Salt.” They also could not confirm if Jolie would be in town for the filming. The closures will affect the I-787 interchange with Madison Avenue, as well as surrounding roads. On each day, different ramps and routes will be closed, while others will remain open. The shooting schedule is longer than the dates originally outlined by city of Albany officials. A letter sent to downtown businesses states that although filming will only take place during daylight, the closures will remain in place overnight to ensure “motorist safety.” The letter also says that city and State Police will be present during the entire shoot to ensure traffic is flowing as smoothly as possible. ”Salt” is the latest major film to be shot in the Capital Region. Last summer, “Taking Woodstock,” based on a book about an activist who scrambled to find a home for the famed 1969 concert, was filmed in and around Columbia County. “Winter of Frozen Dreams,” a murder drama filmed in Schenectady in 2007, is set for imminent release. And “Frozen River,” which was written and directed by East Chatham resident Courtney Hurt, was nominated for two Academy Awards earlier this year. Rain dates for the shoot will be from May 14-18. from yahoo.com…
A shocking cold wave plummets temperatures to levels cold enough to freeze flesh in 10 minutes.
HAHA. so much for global warming!! also from that article..
The ice and snow that glazed pavement was blamed for numerous traffic accidents from Minnesota to Indiana, where police said a truck overturned and spilled 43,000 pounds of cheese, closing a busy highway ramp during the night in the Gary area.
theres this quote from the santa clause (with tim allen) that has always stuck with me:
Neil: What about Santa’s reindeer? Have you even seen a reindeer fly?
Charlie: Yes.
Neil: Well, I haven’t.
Charlie: Have you ever seen a million dollars?
Neil: No.
Charlie: Just because you can’t see something, doesn’t mean is doesn’t exist.
it really should go like this:
Neil: What about Santa’s reindeer? Have you even seen a reindeer fly?
Charlie: Yes.
Neil: Well, I haven’t.
Charlie: Have you ever seen 43,000 pounds of cheese spill over on to the highway?
Neil: No.
Charlie: Just because you can’t see something, doesn’t mean is doesn’t exist.
except now, it does exist. and it made the front page of yahoo. ALSO, paige just showed me that albany and colonie are referenced in it. AWESOME.
